LINE PACKING

Gas stored in the regional network, in order to balance the amounts. The volume is determined by the regional operator and is generally provided in normal metre cubes. The energy contained in network stock is equivalent to the product between the gross calorific value and the volume (normal conditions).

LIQUEFACTION PLANT

This plant is used to liquefy gas by successive expansion and cooling stages (-163° C).

LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS (LNG)

Liquefied natural gas is natural gas converted to its liquid form. At the shipping port, natural gas is liquefied by successive expansion and cooling stages (to -163° C). Its volume is then reduced by 600. LNG ships are used for transport. When at its destination, LNG is stored in insulated tanks, then vaporised and injected as a gas into the gas pipelines on land.

LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LPG)

Liquefied petroleum gas is a mixture of light hydrocarbons stored in their liquid state. It is manufactured during the refining of oil. It can also be found in some fields.

LNG - SHIP

Ship designed to carry liquefied natural gas.

LOCAL NETWORK

Natural gas network generally operated at a maximum pressure of 5 bar. They are known as low-pressure networks.
