The Networks Department has two essential tasks: operate the transport network using gas pipelines in Western Switzerland and ensure different developments to meet the increasing expectations of our clients.

Network operation, carried out by our Operations Department, includes:

  • Supervision 24 hours a day, from the control centre (dispatching) for the supervision of gas pipeline networks and ancillary installations such as delivery stations, isolating valve installations, etc. The objective is to guarantee the supply of our clients at all times. As an example, dispatching is in charge of mobilising the response teams as quickly as possible when needed on one of our installations.
  • Gas flow management. Our dispatching operators ensure the correct volumes of gas ordered upstream to meet our clients needs are delivered on time and amount requested via our transport network.
  • Maintenance of transport network installations, i.e. gas pipelines, delivery stations, safety stations as well as custom stations.
  • Verification of gas pipeline routes and third party work close these gas pipelines. Regularly the gas pipelines are checked, either by helicopter by flying over the pipelines, by car, or on foot in certain cases, the aim being to avoid any work around our installations which has not been previously announced. For this reason, any work close to our installations should be authorised by the relevant department.

The network development, carried out by our Engineering department, consists in designing, planning, building and commissioning new installations:

  • Either new gas installations - for example a new gas pipeline to strengthen security of supply and meet a growing demand or a new delivery station to ensure natural gas distribution to a new region, etc.
  • Or new installations, necessary for network operation. As such, communication tools used for the supervision of gas pipelines and stations, network supervision system (or SCADA), telecommunication system for field operators, etc.

The Networks Department has a similar function to that of a design office, including extensive experience and know-how in high pressure natural gas transport.

Large projects are currently being developed:

  • A gas supply pipeline between Chessel and Chavalon for Chavalon power plant;
  • The modification of the CIMO (Compagnie Industrielle de Monthey) site delivery station for the supply to a cogeneration power plant;
  • Various new delivery stations in Western Switzerland to meet the increasing demand for natural gas.

For these different projects, the Networks Department is composed of an enthusiastic team representing a broad range of technical professions: mechanical, electrical, ICA, telecoms and geomatics engineers, mechanics, electrotechnicians, mechanical and electrical draughtsmen, software developers and dispatching operators.

These team members, from different departments, work together to fulfill their tasks while complying with safety requirements and ensuring a high-level security of supply for our clients.
