Compared to other major energy sources, natural gas has a lower impact on the environment. Considered as the cleanest fossil fuel, it contributes to a sustainable energy market. By replacing other fossil fuels by natural gas, polluting emissions into the atmosphere and the impact on the climate can be reduced. During its combustion, natural gas produces 25% less CO₂ than oil does. Furthermore, it produces very little nitrogen oxide (NO_x) and hardly any sulfur dioxide (SO₂).

In terms of impact on human, natural gas is less harmful as it spreads 300 times less dust and fine particles which are dangerous to health.

Natural gas is not toxic and is odourless. For safety reasons and to be able to detect a leak, an odoran is added.
